Sarkis: Berri’s initiative is aimed at postponing the presidential elections

Tourism Minister Joe Sarkis said that the Lebanese Forces is not against dialogue. “Yet, the timing of dialogue and the lack of a serious agenda raise doubts.”

Sarkis said that some factions have withdrawn their support to the recommendations and decisions taken during previous dialogue sessions that were held before the July 2006 war.

“The call for dialogue indicates the intention to postpone the presidential session,” Sarkis told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.

“We want to elect a president and then resume dialogue under the management of this president,” he added.

Sarkis said that Syria has decided to resume negotiation talks with Israel for it is embarrassed and isolated by the matter of Lebanon’s Special Tribunal.

“However, Syrians will not sign peace with Israel. It is only a maneuver aimed at reducing international pressure, and Berri’s initiative is part of this maneuver,” Sarkis noted.

He also added that the information revealed by LF leader Samir Geagea over Hezbollah’ role in providing the attacker in the Zahle crime with a refuge are serious information.

“Security forces possess detailed information over the cars that were used to drive Joseph Zouki to the South,” Sarkis declared.
