Jumblat Wants Government to Combat Economic Hardships

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat on Monday called for reactivating constitutional institutes to tackle economic hardships escalated by the opposition”s programmed policy of blocking settlements.

 

Jumblat, in an editorial to be published by the PSP”s weekly mouthpiece, al-Anbaa on Tuesday, said a way out of the escalating economic hardship is through settling the political crisis.

 

Excerpts of Jumblat”s article were distributed by the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

 

Such a settlement, according to Jumblat, should be based on “national principles acknowledged by the Taif accord, decisions adopted during previous dialogue sessions and the armistice accord” that was signed between Lebanon and Israel in 1949.

 

Jumblat, whose PSP is member of Socialist International, said the “persisting global economic crisis would generate more hardships for the peoples which would, subsequently, lead to more terrorism.”
