Azour: Pay Raise on its Way
Finance Minister Jihad Azour said Thursday the government is determined to raise wages, although the state”s financial capabilities are limited.
Azour, in a radio interview, said Premier Fouad Saniora”s majority government has been considering a pay raise since the beginning of this year.
It is not a general strike called for by the General Federation of Labor Unions (GFLU) and set for next Wednesday that has led the government to consider correcting the wage list, Azour explained.
He accused the GFLU of seeking to topple dialogue between employers and workers by demanding tripling the minimum wage.
The government is to tackle a pay raise bill next week.
