Sarkis: The Memorandum of Understanding gave Hezbollah legitimacy
Tourism Minister Joe Sarkis said today that the armed groups that have always assured that they would not use their arms internally have launched an organized war against the Lebanese, invading their privacy and their homes and shutting down their media.
After meeting with the Turkish Chargé D’Affaires Serdar Kilitsh in Maarab, Sarkis addressed those who announced the success of the militia coup, saying, “This is an imaginary victory that they could never exchange into any political gains. History has taught us that any organization outside the legitimacy of the state never survives.”
Sarkis blasted those who praised the Memorandum of Understanding signed between MP Michel Aoun’s Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah for not allowing the Party of God to enter the Christian areas. “This understanding gave legitimacy to Hezbollah’s weapons, obstructing the wheels of change launched by the Cedar Revolution.”
Replying to whether the airport road will open soon, Sarkis said, “The decision is not in our hands, but in Hezbollah’s hands… The government is seeking to reconnect the sea channel from Tripoli, as well as Jounieh, to Cyprus in the coming hours, with the Jounieh Port allowing people to travel normally to and from Lebanon.”
