National Liberal Party: New president has to sponsor dialogue regarding arms of Hezbollah
The National Liberal party pointed out that the no-winner-no-loser formula will only work if the implementation of the Doha agreement leads to the rise of the state and its institutions, and said, “That is why we are stressing on the principles of Taif, especially regarding the exclusivity of arms and the decision of peace and war… so there won’t be any closed areas that are off-bound to the official security forces, no safe havens for outlaws to run to, no security blocs and no arms outside legitimacy.”
In a statement following their weekly meeting, the party stressed on the importance of amending the constitution before electing the army commander as president, and said, “We need to find an accord that guarantees Lebanon’s neutrality, and that stops foreign interferences, in order to facilitate the job of the new president.”
The party said, “The country will not get back on track unless the new president sponsors a dialogue regarding the issues of disagreement, especially the arms of Hezbollah.”
