Another earthquake shakes south Lebanon

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale was felt in the town of Hasbayya in southern Lebanon, near the borders with Israel.

The earthquake occurred at at 9: 20 PM local time, however no damages or injuries were reported

The National news Agency has reported that the residents of Sarifa and the neighboring villages in Tyre district felt the earthquake, but no damages were reported , but the earthquake created an ambiance of panic and fear.

The National news Agency has also reported that an earthquake measuring about 3 on the Richter Scale struck the city of Nabatiyah in south Lebanon around 9:27 PM Lebanon time Friday . The shock lasted for 5 seconds and was accompanied by a loud bang which scared the residents and prompted them to go out on the streets . Again no damages were reported .

An earthquake measuring an estimated at 5.1 degrees on the Richter scale struck Beirut, east and south Lebanon around mid February causing minor damage and sending many panicked residents into the streets. Five people were lightly injured in south Lebanon according to police reports

Another earthquake measuring an estimated at 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale was felt on February 12 . It was followed by another aftershock 10 minutes later. The earthquake epicenter was near the town of Tyre ( Sour) in south Lebanon . The aftershock was felt as far as Bint Jbeil near the Israeli border

The largest earthquake of modern times struck Lebanon in 1956 and caused 136 deaths, destroyed 6000 buildings and damaged 1700 more. It destroyed a big part of the old city of Saida ( Sidon)

In 1759 an earthquake completely destroyed Beirut and Damascus killing 40000.
