Poll: Hezbollah’s weapons are no longer legitimate
A poll conducted by Al-Arabiya Television on its website, alarabiya.net, revealed that 70% of the roughly 60,000 respondents believe that Hezbollah’s weapons are no longer legitimate after the party became involved in recent clashes in Lebanon.
The confrontations that erupted on May 7 have been described as the worst to hit Lebanon since the end of the civil war in 1990.
42.3% of the people who participated in the poll responded that Hezbollah’s weapons have lost legitimacy for having been directed against Lebanese.
An additional 29.9% responded that Hezbollah’s possession of weapons is no longer justifiable because it has threatened the stability of the state.
A minority of 11.4% supported the resistance‘s right to preserve it weapons in face of the ongoing Israeli threat against Lebanon.
Finally, 16.3% responded that “Hezbollah’s behavior was aimed at defending its weapons after the government’s decisions that were seen as a threat,” while supporting Hezbollah’s right to keep its weapons.
