MP Zahra: FPM is trying to mislead public opinion

In a phone call to ANB, Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra expressed disappointment that even though the Doha agreement entailed a clause to stop media campaigns, the FPM and their allies, except for Amal, have not abided by it. He said that it wasn’t the first time the Free Patriotic Movement had tried to mislead public opinion.

Zahra said, “We won in Doha by bringing back the role of the institutions and by going back to language of dialogue under the supervision of the new president,” adding that the majority was able to add a call to the agreement from the Arabs and the Lebanese for the state to enforce its legitimacy on all Lebanese soil and to not use weapons internally, without mentioning anything related to the resistance.

“What happened with the electoral law was that we requested to go back to the caza law and not the 1960 law, to divide Akkar into two cazas and to increase the Christian representation to 60 MPs,” Zahra said, adding, “we got acceptance from Gibran Basil, but MP Ali Hassan Khalil refused to divide Baalbek-Hermel into two cazas.”

“There are records of what was said in the electoral law committees, in the presence of the Qatari minister of foreign affairs, and I demand that these records be published so the people know that the division of Beirut is an accomplishment for Samir Geagea, Amin Gemayel and their assistants.”
