Beirut Security Plan Bans Motorcycles

In an effort to contain the escalating violence after Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah”s address, the Central Security Council banned motorcycles and provocative activities in Beirut as of 6 pm Tuesday.

The council, which met under Interior Minister Hassan Sabaa, also banned flags of the various feuding factions in the capital as well as mobile demonstrations by motorists and cyclists.

The ban was part on a security plan for the capital to contain mushrooming violence after at least 23 people were wounded in opposition-majority clashes.

Meanwhile, police said it identified 11 of the gunmen who opened fire at civilians in Beirut”s Kornich Mazraa district Monday evening following Nasrallah”s address on the eighth anniversary of liberation day.

It could not be determined, however, if police would manage to arrest the suspects who are entrenched in traditional Hizbullah and AMAL strongholds.
