MP Jumblatt: We must not be distracted from the central cause
Head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt warned of giving credit once again to “tyrants, symbols of hegemony and oppression.”
“We must not be swept away by the visits of envoys, officials and presidents and be distracted from the central cause, which is the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon,” Jumblatt said on the third anniversary of the assassination of journalist Samir Qassir in an interview with Al-Anbaa weekly.
“On the third commemoration of Samir Qassir, we reiterate our full commitment to freedom of the press and opinion, which constitute the principle bases of the democratic system in Lebanon, which is based on diversity,” Jumblatt said.
Qassir was killed on June 2, 2005 in a bomb placed under his car. He was a staunch defender of Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence and a vocal critic of Syrian violations in the country.
