Solana describes Doha agreement as incomplete
The EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said Wednesday that the Doha agreement was "incomplete" and hoped that the deal would be the start of an irrevocable end to the Lebanese crisis.
At a European Parliament meeting devoted to discuss two reports on a European security strategy and a common EU foreign policy, Solana stressed that the Lebanese situation remained "completely unstable."
The EU leader welcomed the election of Lebanese President Michel Sleiman and the appointment of incumbent Premier Fouad Siniora, but added that while the EU supported Siniora in the formation of the Lebanese cabinet, optimism around Siniora”s ability to form a government peacefully has "begun to wane."
