Zahra supports Future Movement’s recent stance against cabinet formation

MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces supported the Future Movement’s possible withdrawal from negotiations on the national-unity government formation. The Future Movement has said it is considering ending its participation if the implementation of the security clauses in the Doha agreement remained pending.

“The reason is simple,” Zahra added. “What necessitated the meetings Doha was the security situation that arose after the sudden attacks on Beirut recently.”

On whether the formation of a government before Saturday was ruled out, Zahra said that the suspension of communication did not imply the cessation of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora’s work. “This comment is to send a clear message to everyone concerned: there is no justification for any political project if the security plan is to take control over Beirut and attain political gains by force.”

Zahra said he hoped that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s statements on diplomatic exchanges between Lebanon and Syria expressed “conviction and not merely media talk.”

Zahra said the Doha talks aimed at reviving political life and constitutional institutions in Lebanon, and thus continuing attempts to seize Beirut by liquidating those who defend themselves was a continuation of the security incidents that occurred in May in Beirut.
