MP Jumblatt: We must open a new page based on the Doha Agreement
MP Walid Jumblatt, head of the Democratic Gathering bloc, said that the best way to achieve reconciliation after the latest events is through the formation of the government as quickly as possible.
“All parties must also be modest in their demands over power shares in the government,” Jumblatt told Al-Mustaqbal daily.
“In the midst of all these discussions about the establishment of the government, let us remember the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people in their fight against terrorism last year and how they managed to overcome the strife that was endangering Lebanon’s security and unity,” Jumblatt said.
He was referring to the deadly 15-week confrontations between the Lebanese army and Fatah al-Islam militants in the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in northern Lebanon.
Jumblatt stressed the need to revive constitutional institutions and move forward in spite of all the difficulties involved.
“We must open a new page on the basis of the Doha Agreement,” he declared.
