Lebanon president visits Bkirki, meets Sfeir

President Michel Suleiman on Sunday paid a "non-political" visit to Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir at the Maronite Church”s seat in Bkirki and announced that forming the new cabinet is not facing difficulties.

Suleiman, talking to reporters after the visit, paid tribute to the recent statement by Maronite Bishops saying it reflected a feeling of "national responsibility."

He noted that the Bishops had called for "real partnership in managing the nation."

Suleiman held a 15-minute meeting with Sfeir behind closed doors. Sfeir described the meeting as "positive."

We must dream

After the Sunday mass, Patriarch Sfeir received a delegation of the Alumni association of Federation of Catholic Schools

Sfeir told the delegation, "We must dream and it is nice if a dream comes true. We must dream of Lebanon as the legacy of our fathers and grandfathers…Lebanon the cooperation… Lebanon the solidarity and love, and not the divided Lebanon which we see today .

Schools should teach our culture to our children. Lebanon does not have gold and oil, Lebanon”s wealth lies in its culture, which must be preserved.

Patriarch Sfeir was one of the most outspoken Lebanese leaders against the delay in electing the president. When the agreement was reached in Doha to elect Suleiman, Sfeir was out of the country. He returned on May 26 (a day after Suleiman was elected is expected) ending a tour to Qatar, South Africa, the U.S. and Spain.
