Gemayel regrets fight over shares in government

Former President Amin Gemayel called for an end to “the manipulation of people’s lives, security and interests.” Gemayel urged the Lebanese to accelerate the formation of the cabinet and the implementation of the Doha agreement in all its clauses.

Gemayel, also head of the Kataeb Party, said he regretted that political figures were fighting over shares in the cabinet, particularly over sovereign ministries, “with the knowledge that sovereignty can bear no more divisions.”

After a Kataeb meeting at the party’s headquarters in Saifi, Gemayel welcomed French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to Lebanon last Saturday “in form and content.” The support proffered by the French president called on the Lebanese to limit their national decisions to those that fortified unity.

The former president noted that he was “worried” about the security situation in certain parts of Lebanon and the shift of “sedition projects from one region to another.”

On the forty-day commemoration of the deaths of Salim Assi and Nasri Marouni, two Kataeb activist who were shot dead by Joseph Zouki, an opposition supporter, at a party headquarter inauguration in the eastern town of Zahle, Gemayel denounced the fact that the gunmen were known to all, yet remained at large and were protected by a “political umbrella” that promoted “the logic of crime at the expense of truth, justice and law.”
