Palestinians agree to prevent another Nahr-el Bared in Lebanon

Fatah Secretary in Lebanon Sultan Abul Ainein said Palestinian refugees have reached an unanimous agreement to prevent wanted or suspicious foreigners from residing in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian Refugee camp so that it wouldn”t be a second Nahr al-Bared.

Abul Ainein, addressing a press conference at his office in the southern refugee camp of Rashidyeh, said the agreement was reached among the various Palestinian factions to consolidate security at Ain al-Hilweh, located on the southern edge of the southern city of Sidon.

"All Palestinian factions are convinced that any person who could be a source of concern should not be allowed into the camp," Abul Ainein said.

"This is what has happened in fact. A man believed to be a citizen of a gulf state has been deported … after the killing of a man carrying an explosive belt, who is believed to be a Saudi citizen," he added.

Abul Ainein”s address came as an unidentified person was seriously wounded when assailants opened fire at him in the southern Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh.

The unidentified victim was evacuated to Hammoud hospital in nearby Sidon for treatment from nine bullet wounds in various parts of his body, a hospital source said.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the victim did not have any identification documents.

"He is totally unknown, and the ambulance that drove him in from the camp left immediately after he was put on the stretcher," the source added.

"This is a very fishy case. An unknown victim, evacuated from a densely-populated area, and no relatives, friends or family members with him," the source noted.

He is in a critical condition, the source said of the unidentified victim.

The attempt followed a declared agreement by Palestinian factions to get rid of suspicious foreigners living in their camp, to avoid changing it into a second Nahr al-Bared.

Non confirmed reports identified the victim as Jalal Hassanein, member of the Ansar League.

However, a security source ridiculed the claim, recalling that Hassanein "was killed two years ago."

"This guy is someone else. But who is he?" the source asked.

Abul Ainein expressed appreciation to President Michel Suleiman who "has spoken about our misery and our rights."

"Palestinians are confident that President Suleiman”s term in office would be different from any previous presidential term," he added.

Fatah al-Islam terrorists infiltrated the Nahr el bared Palestinian refugee camp in north and used it to launch attacks against the Lebanese army last summer . Over 400 people were killed in the 106 day battle . The army at the end declared victory and disbanded the militants. Their leader the fugitive Shaker el Absi escaped to Syria.
