EU, U.S. Urge Lebanon Government to Spread Control
The European Union and the United States have called on the Beirut government to spread control over all Lebanese territories.
The call came at a summit between U.S. President George Bush and EU leaders in Slovenia.
A statement issued Tuesday at the end of the summit expressed hope that the Doha agreement would be implemented.
The leaders renewed their "commitment to the principles of sovereignty and independence of Lebanon." They also pledged support to the Lebanese government.
They called on all political parties, including Syria, to commit to U.N. Security Council resolutions 1559, 1701 and 1757.
They also requested "full cooperation" with the international tribunal to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of former premier Rafik Hariri.
