Gemayel: Our concern is to consolidate the role of the president
Former President Amin Gemayel noted the ongoing consultation over the establishment of the government and expressed hope that Prime Minister Fouad Siniora will declare the formula of the next government.
“PM Siniora is not holding to a specific ministry. Any ministry is not restricted to a party,” Gemayel said after meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh.
“What matters is the consolidation of the role of the president. If we want to consolidate the position of Christians, we must consolidate the role of the president.”
Gemayel denied talks about a dispute between March 14 forces over ministerial portfolios.
“Syria must make some steps toward reassuring Lebanese. I do not mind if the Syrian president wants to visit Lebanon as part of an Arab tour,” Gemayel noted.
