Controversial Army Raid In Tariq Jedideh Wounds Citizen, Sparks Outrage
Beirut MP Ammar Houry accused an army officer of illegally shooting a citizen in Beirut”s Tariq Jedideh district.
Houry, in a televised statement, said the officer, whom he did not identify, carried out an illegal house raid in Tariq Jedideh, driving a civilian car and accompanied by plain clothed elements.
Houry said the attempt caused outrage in Tariq Jedideh, a predominantly Sunni stronghold for Saad Hariri”s Mustaqbal Movement.
Houry pleaded with citizens to "calm down and leave the issue to the Army Command, which is handling it."
The citizen targeted by the reportedly illegal raid was identified as Zakariya Sinjer, who had reportedly received several death threats from unidentified callers.
Houry urged the Army Command to launch an investigation into the illegal raid that hampers implementation of a security plan for Beirut.
