French Socialist Party criticizes Sarkozy, insists Syria involved in Hariri assassination
The opposition-aligned French Socialist Party criticized its government’s invitation to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Pierre Moscovici, a senior socialist official and member of the European parliament, was far from happy with Assad’s attendance at national celebrations.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy “does not have the ability to actually read the symbolic meaning of things, nor does he know the meanings of images and what they represent, for he implements a very realistic and at times cynical policy,” Moscovici added.
The Socialist MP said it had undisputable played a negative role in Lebanon in recent years. “The investigation into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has not ended, but we are convinced that Syria was closely involved in this assassination,” he stated.
