MP Itani questions General Aoun’s source of information
“From time to time, MP Michel Aoun makes the claim that the majority is distributing arms in the capital, Bekaa or North, and warns against threats to security in these areas… and events then reveal that the majority is in fact exposed to attacks by armed forces in these areas,” according to MP Mohammad Amin Itani of the Future bloc.
“If General Michel Aoun does not have a security mechanism that provides him with his information, then we are led to believe that he is linked to regional bodies that feed him this information and inform him of the map to the clashes,” Itani added.
In a statement on Tuesday, Itani denounced the recent clashes, which he said undermined peace and incited sectarianism as a prelude to the explosion of co-existence in Lebanon and the marginalization of the Lebanese state and security forces.
“I wish General Aoun would direct his warnings at his allies, who are striving to reduce the size of the Lebanese state for the benefit of their de facto forces,” Itani said.
He called on the opposition, of which Aoun is the main Christian leader, to facilitate the formation of a national unity government and work toward the implementation of all the Doha Agreement’s clauses.
