Geagea calls for speedy formation of electoral law and reform
After meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, MP Robert Ghanem conveyed Geagea’s insistence on the presence of Lebanese Forces deputies at the next meeting on the new electoral law, as well as his insistence on the completion of a law as soon as possible.
Ghanem said Geagea had demanded the law and administrative divisions outlined in the Doha Agreement, in addition to applicable reforms.
On the delay in the government formation and Amal and Hezbollah’s approval of General Michel Aoun’s right to appoint a Shia minister, Ghanem said he would not name the obstructionists.
“The obstruction is not a purely Lebanese problem, but a regional and international problem,” he added.
And on the possibility of another Qatari mediation, Ghanem said the matter was up to the President of the Republic and the prime minister.
Geagea in turn chatted with journalists, confirming that he and Ghanem had discussed the electoral law, the division agreed on in Doha and the reforms outlined by the Fouad Butrous draft law.
The two also discussed the need to expedite the formation of the government, Geagea said.
