MP Zahra: FPM is obstructing the formation of the cabinet

MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces said that the FPM is obstructing the establishment of the government because it is refusing to take the Telecommunications Ministry without also taking the Ministry of Public Works.

“The problem is coming from the opposition, not March 14, because we have no problem with the Christian representation in the government,” Zahra told the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar.

“The Lebanese Forces is not insisting on a particular ministry, but only that it is represented in the government according to its parliamentary bloc.”

Zahra noted that the establishment of the government will help end the spate of violence inflicting North Lebanon, but warned that any delay will lead to additional chaos and the deterioration of the security situation.

MP Zahra reiterated his accusations against Hezbollah, which he said is responsible for the kidnapping and assault of several youths in Sannine. According to majority sources, the youths reported that their attackers said they were from the Resistance. Hezbollah, however, has denied any involvement.

“I wonder why the Resistance would be in Sannine. The pretext they are using, protecting Lebanon in case Israel air drops troops in the area, does not justify their presence,” Zahra said.

He also noted that the Doha Agreement does not give Hezbollah the freedom to carry out military activities.

“The Lebanese Forces’ participation in the government is conditioned on the discussion of Hezbollah’s weapons after the establishment of the government.”

He also expressed hope that President Michel Sleiman has new information that would lead to the establishment of the government soon.
