Ahdab warns against repercussions of cabinet delay

MP Misbah Al-Ahdab warned against the danger created by “ridiculous controversies over [ministerial] portfolios.”

“This stage requires that there be a government, and we have constitutional mechanisms if politicians do not approve of their current president and incumbent prime minister,” he added.

“The incumbent premier forms the government and sends it to the parliament, where deputies vote, and then we can see whether the position of each and every member is consistent with their statements.”

After meeting with Prime Minister Fouad Siniora in the Grand Serail, Ahdab reiterated his belief that delaying the cabinet formation was “illogical,” and pointed to Free Patriotic Movement leader General Michel Aoun as a major factor in the delay.

“This is a challenge between the concept of state and the concepts of nepotism and special interests,” Ahdab stated.

Ahdab denounced the “occupation” and said he refuses to participate in power in the current situation. He emphasized that there should be no parliamentary elections before resolving the issue of disarmament, as Lebanon is currently under occupation. “If we accept parliamentary elections in these circumstances, the occupation becomes a legitimate occupation,” he said.

The MP said it was inconceivable that, while weapons in the street were directed against civilians, leaders still called for elections.

“What will the outcome of the elections be? Will be the de facto forces that are against the state tell the international community that they legitimately govern the country?” he concluded.
