Minister Fatfat: The only complication in forming the government is Aoun
Youth and Sports Minister Ahmed Fatfat told the Voice of Lebanon radio station that there are not too many complications facing the formation of the cabinet; “The only complication is MP Michel Aoun, who is obstructing the establishment of the government by the way he is dealing with the political situation and with his many demands.”
Commenting on certain calls for PM Fouad Siniora to step down for taking too much time to form the cabinet, Fatfat said there is no political or constitutional deadline in this regard.
“No one set July 12 as a deadline, but we hope that it will be established before this date,” he said.
He also said that discussing the formation of the government is not done through the media. “Some newspapers disfigured the suggestions proposed to Aoun.”
“General Aoun is not presenting a specific demand. He is pursuing an ongoing policy of escalation, as if we don’t know the reason behind his attitude,” Fatfat said.
He also called on the Lebanese army and Internal Security Forces to impose their authority on the ground and prevent any attempts at creating strife, “because the situation is very dangerous.”
