Houry holds Aoun responsible for cabinet delay

Future bloc deputy Ammar Houry said bloc head Saad Hariri’s visit to the president was a “positive push” to the cabinet formation.

Houry said the Doha Agreement was as clear basis for the demands and rights of both the pro-government and opposition alliances. “Yet part of the opposition, namely General Michel Aoun, is trying to increase their conditions on the negotiations,” he said in reference to the Free Patriotic Movement leader. “General Aoun will eventually come back to reality,” he continued, “and be convinced that what he was offered truly reflects and represents his parliamentary bloc.”

“At any rate, His Excellency the President is overseeing the intense contacts on the cabinet formation in coordination with the incumbent prime minister,” Houry told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.

The MP said President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister Fouad Siniora both had firm belief in the Doha Agreement as a healthy basis for the formation of a national unity government, and would ensure the cabinet be balanced and fair to all.

Houry said he hoped the cabinet formation would progress rapidly in the near future, adding that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s meeting with his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, on July 12 may be an incentive for “Syria’s allies” in Lebanon to facilitate the process.
