Soueid hopes Hezbollah’s acts match speech

March 14 General Secretariat coordinator Fares Soueid said Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah”s speech Wednesday was reminiscent of Bint Jbeil on the May 26, 2000, after the liberation of southern Lebanon.

Soueid, a former deputy, noted that he would have also liked to hear Nasrallah say the liberation was a victory and achievement for all Lebanese in the same tone of voice when the July War ended on August 14, 2006.

“We would have liked this speech on August 14, 2006, when Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah could have spared us two years of blockades and violence, both verbal and physical,” Soueid said in an interview with the Central News Agency.

He also emphasized that Hezbollah could only regain national trust through its acts, and not through publicly announcing its intentions.

Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is trying to contain the negative reaction to his party”s May assaults.

“Sentiments rejecting Hizbullah emerged after the May events. These sentiments are not restricted to the Sunni, Christian and Druze communities. Rejecting Hizbullah”s behavior has become a collective Arab-Islamic stand."

He said Nasrallah proposed in his Wednesday press conference dialogue "so that it can be a mechanism to normalize relations with the various factions."

The inclusion of Hezbollah on the UK list of terrorist organizations list of British led Nasrallah to moderate his talk in an attempt to “buy time,” Soueid added.

On Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons, Soueid said the Lebanese state alone had the right to negotiate with other states. He called on the government to uncover the fate of missing persons and return all detainees from prisons.
