March 14 forces won the medical syndicate by-elections
March 14 forces and its allies won yesterday’s medical syndicate by-elections, in which 1,550 doctors participated, according to head of the medical syndicate George Aftimos.
March 14-alligned doctors and their allies in Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya and the democratic forces released a statement noting that the level of participation revealed large-scale opposition preparation for the elections. “It also revealed their certain loss,” the statement added, “which led the opposition to withdraw its candidates under the pretext of failing to reach a consensus.”
The March 14 list, under the title Syndicate First, included four new members: Dr. Bernard Jerbaqa, who received 1,443 votes; Dr.Rahif Jalloul, who won 1,391 votes; Dr. Hussein Hammoud, with 1,386 votes; and Dr. Chawki al-Danaf.
Doctors Hikmat al-Husseini and Elias Estephan were elected uncontested as members of the disciplinary council.
