MP Franjieh requests cabinet based on policy, not quotas

MP Samir Franjieh emphasized that the aim of forming the government was to restore dialogue among the Lebanese, which had been at a standstill since the July War.

Franjieh noted that Lebanon had witnessed disturbances, clashes, conflicts and strife, which the Doha Agreement should have ended with its imperative to form a unity government. “But it seems as if the government has become a struggle over ministries, as if these ministries will resolve the electoral battle.”

In an interview on Wednesday, Franjieh said rapid developments in the region would be reflected in the situation in Lebanon. The government and dialogue table were necessary to preserve Lebanon, he added, especially as the implications of existing alliances were “uncertain, particularly in the ranks of the opposition, owing to new regional disparities.”

The MP said it would have been preferable for the government to be based on the actual purposes for which it existed, namely based on policy rather than quota-sharing.
