Jumblatt blasts Western failure at honest dialogue
Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt added his voice to the debate over the summit for the proposed Mediterranean Union during a wide-ranging interview with his party”s newspaper Al-Anbaa Monday.
"We must find a way for this path to succeed in view of the disparity between the educated, applied concept of democracy in the West and what has come to pass in the Arab and Muslim world, which is control, hegemony, and dictatorship," he said.
He went on to criticize the West for failing to open an honest dialogue with the Arab and Muslim world, as well as for sponsoring "the Zionist persecution." "How can countries that respect human rights interact with countries such as Syria … which keep nearly 6,000 political prisoners in its jails, unless the West thinks the Arab world does not need freedom?" he asked.
