Fatfat states Future Movement will never be “militia”
Outgoing Youth and Sports Minister Ahmed Fatfat emphasized that the Future Movement was a “political project that began with the martyrdom Rafik Hariri” and rejected all recourse to arms, whatever the reason.
“Our only option is the state and all its institutions… The Future Movement has made it clear that it will never be a militia, under any circumstances. Lebanon has lived under militias and suffered, and this will not happen again,” he stated.
Fatfat noted, however, that the people had the right to defend themselves, “especially if weapons are turned towards the inside.”
In a visit to Dinniyah on Friday, Fatfat said called for disarmament as a main topic of discussion at the dialogue table, and emphasized the need to discuss arms as part of a strategic defense strategy for Lebanon.
The outgoing minister deemed any Lebanese who drew their weapons on Lebanon “terrorist.”
“This is what happened in Beirut and the Bekaa, and what is happening in Tripoli,” he added.
