Zahra condemns celebratory gunfire in Batroun
MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces denounced the celebratory gunfire, which left a child wounded, in Batroun and surrounding villages following the announcement of a national unity government on Friday afternoon.
Reem Barghal was wounded when a stray bullet hit her leg after the birth of the long-awaited government. Some residential buildings were damaged, and panic spread among citizens.
Zahra issued a statement in which he condemned the act, “which comes duing a delicate and extremely sensitive phase.” Zahra said the Lebanese were unable to bear additional shocks, adding that citizens’ nerves were wrought with tension as they awaited political developments following presidential election breakthrough.
Zahra said the appearance of arms incited reason to worry and was a flagrant violation of the law.
Zahra called on the judicial and security authorities to prosecute violators of the law who undermined the security of innocent citizens.
