Geagea: Syria “lacks seriousness” at Mediterranean Summit
“It is true that there are differences in Lebanese points of view, but these differences must not remain an obstacle to the development of the state,” according to head of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea.
After meeting with the two ministers representing the LF in the new cabinet, Environment Minister Antoine Karam and Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar, Geagea said his party had entered the cabinet to facilitate the lives of citizens and fight corruption. “Security was one of the first things we will raise in the government, as citizens cannot keep living under threats,” he added.
“The path to reestablishing balance has begun, and the Cedar Revolution created the right atmosphere for Christians to return to the state,” Geagea said.
The LF leader said the much-anticipated ministerial statement should parallel President Michel Sleiman’s inaugural speech, calling on the president to invite Lebanese leaders to the dialogue table after he returns from Paris on Wednesday.
Sleiman, who is currently in the French capital for the Mediterranean Summit, met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the first time since his election in May. While the two heads of state confirmed their plan to exchange embassies, Geagea described the summit as lacking seriousness, particularly from the Syrian side, and said he awaited the results to crystallize.
