Minister Lahoud Deems Paris Meetings Good First Step
Newly appointed Minister of State Nassib Lahoud said the new government’s greatest priority is national reconciliation and creating an appropriate atmosphere to solve Lebanon’s political problems and reactivate the national economic cycle.
Lahoud also welcomed last weekend’s meetings in Paris, which joined for the first time Lebanese President Michel Sleiman with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, as the first step toward correcting Lebanese-Syrian relations, which the minister said must be built on mutual respect for sovereignty and independence.
After meeting with Prime Minister Fouad Siniora at the Grand Serail, Lahoud announced that the premier is currently preparing for the release of a ministerial statement. Siniora is also taking the necessary measures to obtain a vote of confidence in parliament, he added.
