Lebanese emigrants have not forgotten their place of birth

Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, who is visiting Australia, expressed his admiration of the country’s political and social scene, saying, “The system is being respected, and there are rules in social life.”

Sfeir said on Monday that the Australian government sustains the weak, cares for the sick, provides universal education and opens the way for those seeking work.

“All citizens abide by the system without complaining,” he added.

“Most of the people in Australia are satisfied with their situation and work hard. They are fulfilling their duties toward the state and the Church. We saw that the security situation is stable here,” he said.

Patriarch Sfeir said that most of the Lebanese emigrants to Australia have not forgotten Lebanon and are hurt by the divisions in their home country.

He also said that Lebanese in Australia yearn to see the rule of law implemented in Lebanon and to see citizens respecting the rules.
