Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council represents the era of Damascus’ tutelage over Lebanon

MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces said that the first step toward redressing Lebanese-Syrian relations is disbanding the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council, as it represents the era of Damascus’ tutelage over Lebanon.

In an interview with Al-Arabiya Television, Zahra added that the March 14 forces are determined to make relations right between the two countries.

Except for Mouallem’s respecting protocol by addressing the invitation to visit Damascus to the Lebanese president, Zahra said, the Syrian FM’s statements were telling that his country’s attitudes toward Lebanon are being shaped by Arab and international pressure.

Zahra said that when Mouallem raised the matter of the Israeli occupation of the Shebaa Farms, he was undermining President Sleiman’s vow to liberate the land first by diplomacy, then by military force, as using diplomacy to regain the territory requires Syrian cooperation.
