MP Mouawad’s office replies to Minister Aoun’s accusations
The media office of Former Social Affairs Minister and current MP Nayla Mouawad issued a statement in reply to current Social Affairs Minister Mario Aoun’s accusations that the ministry is suffering from corruption.
Mouawad’s statement said that Aoun’s attitude, despite his denial of making the accusation, reflects the Free Patriotic Movement’s tendency to discredit its rivals in order to destroy them, “The same way MP Michel Aoun’s totalitarian and Baathist regime allies do.”
Mouawad’s statement also said Minister Aoun’s accusations are a continuation of former Minister Wiam Wahhab’s claims the ministry is corrupt, as well as FPM Political Education Official Bassam Hashem’s claims the Rene Mouawad Foundation abuses public funds.
The Rene Mouawad Foundation was established to commemorate late president Rene Mouawad, MP Mouawad’s husband, who was assassinated on November 22, 1989, 17 days after his election.
The foundation advocates dialogue, peace and social justice and has launched numerous social welfare projects.
Mouawad’s statement went on to say that MP Mouawad, while serving as Social Affairs Minister, made efforts to develop the ministry’s performance and combat problems that were impeding its work.
