MP Akram Chehayeb of the Democratic Gathering bloc headed by MP Walid Jumblatt said that the Lebanese have gotten used to the Syrian regime’s tactics of assassinations, hostile media campaigns and accusations of treason.
“All this did not stop, even after the Syrians withdrew from Lebanon,” Chehayeb told Al-Mustaqbal daily on Friday.
“Anyone who talks about the truth and tries to strengthen the sovereignty of the state becomes an enemy to this regime, which is organically related to that of the Israelis,” he added.
He also said that the ministerial statement must be based on the Taif and Doha agreements, which the Lebanese have agreed upon in the national dialogue roundtable.
MP Chehayeb said that Speaker Berri is for the revival of state institutions and hopes that the cabinet gets the parliament’s vote of confidence.
He also said that nothing is preventing parties from accepting compromises so that the country can move forward.
Chehayeb ruled out the existence of problems within March 14. “March 14 is not passing fad. Its parties are joined together by the principles of independence and sovereignty.”
