Lebanon indirectly taken hostage by Iran
MP Ammar Houri of the Future bloc expressed his regret that parts of the parliamentary minority “insisted on violating the Doha Agreement” and especially clause 8.
“The minority’s attempt to topple the Doha Agreement constitutes an offence against the rights of the nation and its citizens,” he added. Houri urged the Lebanese government to complete the as yet unformed ministerial statement “with the logic of partnership” and the interests of the people in mind.
The MP called for the end of “the use of mistrust, language and political or religious incitement,” which had instigated the violence of May, 2008 in Beirut and other areas. The renewed violence in Tripoli this weekend, he continued, indicated a “loss of logic, and in many cases with the use of for political interests and in breach of the Doha Agreement.”
Houri tied Iranian Vice President Rida Aghazadeh’s recent statements to the situation in Lebanon, saying the VP’s had taken the Lebanese situation “hostage to settle the Iranian nuclear file.”
On July 24, 2008, Aghazadeh said the start of Iranian negotiations with the international community on Iran”s nuclear dossier could lead to a solution to “many problems, such as Iraq, Lebanon or oil prices” after a meeting in Vienna that joined him with fourth Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed al-Baradei.
