Minister of State Wael Abu Faour on Monday said that all Lebanese parties had no interest in using “threatening language in their media tools,” especially after Doha Agreement.
After meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon Aud Lise Norheim, Abou Faour commented on Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammed Raad’s speech on Sunday had no place at the upcoming roundtable dialogue.
He noted that Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and other political leaders were all actively participating in the ministerial statement committee’s talks to reach agreement on two contentious proposals. The first of these issues, according to Abou Faour, were the exclusive rights of the state, and the second was the rights of the Resistance.
The minister added that Lebanon was plagued with a tense atmosphere because of its “unsecure environment” and urged all parties to work to solve the Lebanese people’s problems and needs.
In response to a question on Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader Walid Jumblatt’s recent political stance, Abou Faour said the PSP was “fighting the battle of democratic Arabism.”
“We were not calling for sovereignty in order to isolate Lebanon. But if anyone imagines that MP Walid Jumblatt will abandon his history, they would be totally wrong,” he noted.
“We will not beg for any alliance or any position. We had our independent position within March 14 coalition, and we believe that we should provide new open horizons and directions. This is the conviction of the March 14 alliance, as well as that of Walid Jumblatt,” he added.
Abou Faour also said that the Lebanese people should reach an agreement on national issues.
The MP confirmed his support for the 30-day deadline Speaker Nabih Berri had mentioned as the constitutional timeframe given to the cabinet to form its ministerial statement.
“We are working very hard to reach an agreement concerning the ministerial statement,” he concluded.
