MP Kairouz for Policy Statement based on Doha Accord
MP Elie Kairouz of the Lebanese Forces bloc said the new cabinet”s policy statement should be based on the Doha Accord and President Michel Suleiman”s oath address.
"The policy statement should state the need to work out a defense strategy for the state away from any pressure that weapons can exert of the political process," Kairouz said.
"The state cannot give up its sovereign duty of defending the land and the people of Lebanon," he stressed.
He told partisans in the Bshari province that national unity in March 8 political parlance is a "mere framework for an interim era prior to controlling state powers."
The 2009 parliamentary elections, according to Kairouz, would be an "historic referendum on destiny options for Lebanon."
"Serious preparations should start as of today so that Lebanon would win."
