Hopefull that Sleiman’s visit to Syria will resolve Shebaa Farms dispute
Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel called for indirect talks between Lebanon and Israel "through Jordan or France" on the Shebaa Farms issue.
Such indirect negotiations, Gemayel added, should follow the documented recognition by Syria of Lebanon”s sovereignty over the farms in line with the international law.
Gemayel, talking to reporters, said he hopes that President Michel Suleiman”s forthcoming visit to Syria would tackle this issue.
He urged Premier Fouad Saniora”s cabinet to launch an "initiative aimed at defusing the situation. We are fully aware that civic order and stability are directly linked to the issue of Hizbullah weapons and these weapons are linked to Shebaa Farms."
"Some factions believe that these weapons are linked to the persisting conflict in the region. This we cannot tolerate," he added.
