Maronite Bishops Urge Cabinet to Unite the People
Maronite Bishops on Thursday expressed hope Premier Fouad Saniora”s new cabinet would "unite ranks" of the Lebanese people in cooperation with officials topped by President Michel Suleiman.
The bishops, in a statement released after their monthly meeting presided over by Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, also hoped for a return of stability to the homeland.
Regret was expressed for the recurrent violence in Lebanon, especially in Tripoli, bishops said they hope the situation stabilizes, especially since Lebanese emigrants are returning to the country for summer vacation.
They called "the state and citizens" to look after the nation”s wild forests after the series of fires.
"Culprits in such reportedly premeditated fires should be brought to justice," the bishops stressed.
The meeting was held at Sfeir”s summer seat in northern Diman.
