MP Tueni Criticizes Hizbullah Weapons

MP Ghassan Tueni has said Hizbullah”s possession of weapons "encourages other parties to arm up."

Tueni, in an interview with Orange Television Network, rejected Hizbullah”s stand that it had to carry out a military operation in May to defend its communications network and reject government action against the chief of Beirut Airport security Brig. Wafik Shoqeir.

Tueni called for forming the senate in line with the Taif accord to represent the various religious communities in Lebanon.

He also told OTV that PSP leader MP Jumblatt has not changed his positions recently, as is being reported in the media, but is adapting them to the current circumstances. “I respect him a lot,” he added.

Tueni noted the need for the new government to organize its spending on the upcoming 2009 parliamentary elections, adding that the March 14 forces will participate in the elections as a united front.

He also proposed obliging politicians to "read. We have ministers that I doubt they had ever read a book."

Tueni noted that he has not decided yet whether he will run for the upcoming legislative elections, but he said he prefers to nominate Nayla Tueni, “the successful young woman who proved herself in journalism in Nahar al-Chebab.
