The Dubai police announced on Sunday that the presumed murderer of Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim was arrested, and the pan-Arab satellite Al-Arabiya quoted a security source as saying the prime suspect was arrested in Cairo.
The Dubai Police held a press conference on Sunday, but only disclosed that the killer held an Arab nationality and was 39 years of age.
Police also reported that the supposed perpetrator left Dubai a few hours after the murder.
The Gulf Times Sunday edition quoted a well-informed police source in Dubai as saying that the investigations had narrowed the suspect list down to two.
Tamim was found dead on July 29 in her residence in Dubai, with evidence showing she had been stabbed and mutilated.
Since her graduation from Studio al-Fann, a television talent show, in 1996, Tamim’s life was overrun by family problems, which were a major obstacle to her career.
Her first marriage, to Ali Mouzannar, ended in divorce shortly after her graduation from the talent show.
Her second marriage, to Adel Maatouq, who became her manager, also ended in divorce.
Tamim participated in the theater play Ghadat al-Cameleon and released an album in 2003 before moving into Cairo after Maatouq lodged several legal complaints against her.
Her last recorded song, “Lovers” in 2006, was dedicated to the memory of slain former Lebanese Premier Rafik Hariri.
Eight months before her death, Tamim disappeared from Cairo and was living secretly in Dubai.
