Resistance rose against oppression do not turn it into an instrument of oppression

The fourth day of parliamentary talks on the national unity government’s ministerial statement began at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Parliament’s next step is a vote to grant the cabinet confidence.

In his comments, Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra confirmed that the LF’s reservations had not subsided, adding that the ministerial statement did not grant any party the right to give suggestions on the strategic defense.

Zahra warned that negotiations among different parties would lead nowhere in light of the current balance in power and questioned whether decisions reached through national dialogue, if any, would be respected.

The MP said he appreciated the positive role that Arab countries, primarily Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Gulf had played and urged the cabinet to protect Lebanon’s relations with these states within the framework of law.

He added that the statement did not define a final position on the Lebanese detainees in Syria’s fate, which was especially significant as previous committees had reached no evident results. “We call for an international committee to deal with this dossier,” he noted.

Zahra emphasized his call for granting Lebanese emigrants the right to vote and requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to start registering the emigrants’ names.

“The Resistance rose against oppression. Do not turn it into an instrument of oppression,” Zahra concluded.
