Former Syrian political prisoner and MP Mamoun al-Homsi said on Tuesday that a special tribunal to look into this month’s assassination of top Syrian army General Mohammed Sleiman is the most important issue facing Syria.
It has been widely speculated by the Arab media that General Sleiman was the Syrian regime’s liaison with Hezbollah. He is said to have been killed by a sniper in the coastal city of Tartus and buried in his hometown of Deriekish.
This assassination comes six months after that of top Hezbollah military commander Imad Mugniyah in a Damascus car bombing, which Hezbollah blamed on Israel despite the latter’s denial of any connection with the murder.
