Hezbollah’s performance a clear indication of oppression and dictatorship
Leader of Kataeb party Amin Gemayel revealed on Saturday that he will not be a candidate in the coming parliamentary elections noting that the Kataeb party has started its preparations.
Gemayel said to al-Shiraa magazine that there was a difficulty in improving relations with Syria before adjudication in the case of former PM Rafik Hariri’ assassination is issued. “It is not a secret that some people in Lebanon are more Syrian the Syrians themselves, so any adjudication against Syria will intimidate its Lebanese allies,” Gemayel added.
He confirmed that Syrian intelligence were still present in Lebanon, with coverage from Hezbollah, and do not need an embassy to operate.
“Syria has to practically change its mentality toward Lebanon to reach normalized relations,” Gemayel said. “It is also important for us that information about missing persons is clarified,” he added.
Gemayel described Hezbollah’s performance in the parliamentary sessions as “a clear indication of a new phase of oppression and dictatorship”.
Gemayel noted that March 14 are not only concerned about the Syrian issue, but they are working on “building a strong responsible state able to take war and peace decisions and to deal with Hezbollah’s weapons in accordance with the principles of legitimacy and sovereignty of the state.
“Hezbollah has proved itself as the solo decision-maker in March 8, so no need to introduce new opposition parties to the national dialogue table,” Gemayel added.
“I agree with MP Walid Jumblat on opening channels with all parties although this might annoy some parties of March 14, because dialogue with all remains mandatory,” Gemayel said.
Gemayel noted that there was indirect political communication with MP Michel Aoun because the latter is " integrally linked to Hezbollah and his speech is contradictory with his earlier principles."
