Central Bureau for National Coordination criticizes bombings and “security squares”

The Central Bureau for National Coordination on Wednesday condemned the August 13 explosion in Tripoli that it said aimed to undermine the city’s sovereignty and the Sunni commitment to the Cedar Revolution.

In a statement, the bureau added that the opposition invasion of Beirut, the Bekaa and the North in May aimed to weaken the state’s role, propagate unrest and undermine the new phase that began with President Michel Sleiman’s election.

It said that the government should bolster its role in fighting against those who aimed at keeping Lebanon at the service of the Wilayat al-Faqih, or the Guardianship of the Jurist, an Iranian ideology that Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah advocates.

The Lebanese “citizens’ security should be considered a priority, and red lines should be drawn around national interests, civil peace and citizens’ dignity,” the statement read.

The bureau called on President Sleiman and the national unity government to preserve the military institution’s role and to safeguard its dignity after the affronts of the March 8 coalition over the past two years.

It also called for closing Hezbollah’s privately-policed “security squares.”
