Campaign is being waged against Siniora
Leader of the Future bloc MP Saad Hariri said in a press release issued on Wednesday that a smear campaign was being waged against Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.
Hariri said that “some are trying to create a Sunni-Christian political division, which we have been avoiding. We work according to the spirit of March 14, which is based on moderation and respect for the state’s sovereignty and democracy.”
Hariri spoke out against suggestions, made by opposition figures earlier this week, that when Siniora was out of the country, the Deputy Prime Minister should be granted the authority and power of the Prime Minister. He said such suggestions had “no basis in any constitutional article,” and were “a clear attempt to instigate hatred against the Prime Minister and what he represents.”
Hariri said Siniora would not “not give in to such demands, no matter how much they try.”
“Any citizen can tell that these demands are propaganda against the Prime Minister that aim to awaken sectarian strife.”
“We will not allow this division to occur nor will we allow any revolt over the Doha agreement and national unity cabinet,” Hariri concluded.
